Christine Ng on Work, Friends & Gossips - Keeps It All Superficial

Friends think Christine Ng is the "female Anthony Wong" or the "female Eric Tsang", but she's actually not. She is not like the former, frequently trying to be the "Super Righteous Man" nor is she like the latter who makes the wrong comments and offends people. You can say she is conducted with propriety. Some people might think, just by her physical appearance, that she can really be offending or she likes to spread gossips. Looking back at her record, Christine rarely has any gossips, except for the high-profile fall out with former good friend Joel Chan. Towards her job, friends, gossips or the media, Christine will always just touch on it and leave it there, making sure she doesn’t overdo anything.

Self-Recommendation

From 2005 - 2010, Christine was nominated every year for the best actress and best supporting actress awards, but she leaves empty-handed each year. Christine said she doesn't take it to heart, but still has hope. "Actually I'm personally in the calm state already, but I want to emphasize awards is absolutely not the reason why I decided to participate in Beauty At War."

Christine said she waited 9 years for this sequel to happen. "I watched War and Beauty and at the time I thought to myself, wouldn't it be great if I could be in the sequel. I waited so many years, I'm old now and thought it would never happen! Later, I found out Beauty At War was a proposed series and they were recruiting artists. I went to meet TVB executive Catherine Tsang and producer Jonathan Chik to recommend myself." Because of this series, Christine Ng recommended herself to the producer for the first time. This is something most artists are unwilling to do, especially for those at Christine’s level, this action is called ‘casting’. "I said to them, if you are casting, I am willing to accommodate you. They felt surprised, for what reason would I want to do this ‘casting’? I also told them, ‘you can still audition me’. In the end, they didn't do the audition, lucky. Haha."

The FaDan Assessment

She expressed when thinking about the awards, we cannot just look at Beauty At War, there are other series and FaDans too. Christine has been in the industry for 24 years and should have the qualification to assess the current FaDans. She expressed: "Ah Yi (Tavia Yeung) is strong and grounded; Myolie Wu is rather modern, she can do some exploring and try out other things; Sharon Chan, I'm definitely familiar with her. She has a lot of room for development. I think she's too tall and her legs are too long, hahaha. Many guys are not as tall as her." Previously Kate Tsui was rumored on bad terms with Christine, what does she think about her? She said: "I collaborated with Kate in one series. I watched her improve continuously, but I don’t know her well enough, so I don't dare to say too much about her."

Purely A Game

Don't dare to speak? All along, everybody thought there isn’t anything Christine wouldn’t dare to say.. She's given us the impression like she's very casual, straightforward and does things as she pleases. Just like at the Mr. Hong Kong shows, Christine behaved like a wolf, like a tiger, but it turns out everything she did was just to accommodate the show and to create some atmosphere. "The producer told us if the atmosphere was like this or that, it would be great."

We thought Christine is a person full of enthusiasm, but she's the complete opposite: "You think I'm a person with a 100 friends, but actually I don't even go out. I don't like lively atmospheres, I like peaceful atmospheres. For instance, Sharon Chan loves lively atmospheres, but I just can't follow through with her extreme liveliness. She might say to me, 'Sister, let's go eat. I want to see you everyday, I love you.' I say to her, ‘I love her too, but I can only see you once a month. Can you still be my good friend?’ If so, then carry on. I am that type of person. If you invite me out for dinner and I say I need to go home and take a shower, then you can just count me out. Haha. Or perhaps you ask me, why are you not enthusiastic with me? I would ask you enthusiastically, 'Why do you think I'm not enthusiastic?' It's interesting, its a like flirting personality."

Not Talking to Joel Chan

Can other people easily upset Christine? She said she’s not a person who easily gets upset: “I know what you’re trying to ask. Its not easy! Not easy!” Exactly, I did want to want to ask about Joel Chan. We never mentioned his name, but the conversation implied it. Christine added: “I look like someone good at arguing and falling out with someone, but I only had very few fall outs in my life. I just want to tell you, I’m a peaceful person. Honestly, you’ve seen me in the industry for so long, I rarely have any enemies because that’s my personality, I don’t like having enemies.”

“But if someone pisses me off, I won’t talk to them. I would be really, really upset and say ‘I’m not talking to you!’ If you ask me about that person, I’m still not talking to them, no comment. When I’m not forgiving or talking to someone, then I definitely have my reasoning. It should be said this way, I am not a reckless person. Each individual has some kind of chemistry with the other person, whatever happens between them or whatever episode they get into, I don’t think its necessary to be so frank about it.” In all honesty, will Christine really not forgive Joel? “Actually I don’t want to talk about him. Christine Ng Admits Been 'The Other Woman' Before: Its Old News Made New

Lately due to TVB new series Beauty At War, lead actresses Christine Ng (Miss 5) and Sheren Tang have been on the headlines. Yesterday it was reported Miss 5 exposed she used to smoke marijuana; she joined the triad; and she's been "the other woman" before. In regards to this, Miss 5 expressed during a phone interview that it is all true, but the article's content were taken from her pass interviews, where she mentioned these facts. She said: "The reporter called me and asked if I'm like this or that. At the time, I was at my hotel room party and even put the call on speaker for my girl friends to listen. They (reporters) just took my past interview recordings and put it together. I basically didn't do any exclusive interview with them."

It was rumored Miss 5 developed a deep relationship with her Beauty At War palace maid sisters, they partied together and didn't even invite her on-screen elder sister Sheren Tang. Miss 5 expressed although she does not have a sisterly relationship with Sheren nor do they have a deep friendship, but they are definitely not on bad terms. She said: "First, I did invite Sheren to my hotel room party, but she's just too busy and didn't have the time. Sheren has a lot to do, she's really really busy. Whoever has time, then they're welcome to come, but I did develop a good friendship with the group of palace maids while we were shooting the series. I can really party crazy with them. "Miss 5" Christine Ng has been feeling excited lately because her new series Beauty At War is airing on April 22nd. War and Beauty was a huge hit back in 2004 and now that the sequel is finally airing, as one of the female leads, of course Christine is feeling anxious.

Christine frankly expressed she personally enjoyed watching War and Beauty and this time, she's apart of the sequel and feels especially excited. "I've always been a Jonathan Chik fan. I had already noticed him from the films he produced in his early years, but after so many years we only collaborated in ATV's The Movie Tycoon (1994); TVB's Cold Blood Warm Heart (1995) and CIB Files (2006), and still didn't really know each other well. This time, because the script was written on the spot, we had more opportunities to chat and get to know each other more."

Christine described her role 'Shun Tai Fei' (Consort Shun) as a woman with heavy resentment because right after she married the Emperor, he dies and she immediately turned into a widow. Because she had never been loved or got favored by the emperor, she turned into a ruthless woman, the one causing all the trouble in the palace. In reality, Christine has been happily married to her husband Kasey Lin for 14 years and had always maintained an energetic and positive attitude. She frankly expressed because her role is the complete opposite of herself, it was a challenge for her. "Usually when I start a new series, I do my preparations half a month before, but this time I spent 2 months prior to do the outline for the role. I watched the original War and Beauty and watched several other palace related dramas to use as reference. At home, I practiced how to walk with the shoes from the Qing dynasty and because I knew the script would be written as we are filming, I just had to practice my walking and then focus on my lines. But, honestly this time around it was quite difficult for me. The dialogue was really long, the language was too complex, I didn't even know some of the words and to top it off, the script wasn't complete before we started filming. That period, I really felt like I was taking exams, I had to memorize my lines every night. It was so stressful."

Christine expressed this is the most difficult series that she has ever worked on, but she didn't get depression like Sheren Tang did. "I really didn't think Sheren had any issues though! Perhaps because, that time we were all just so concentrated in memorizing our own lines, so all got anxious! I'm personally quite positive, very optimistic and I have never gotten so into character that my mental health gets affected too. (When you go home and see your husband, you forget everything?) This time, it has nothing to do with him! Its when I see my two beloved cats so cute, they made me so happy that I forget everything!"

When speaking of her husband Kasey, he makes surprise visits to the set and constantly takes pictures of his wife. In reality, Christine is certain she won't be a distressed woman. She laughed: "I'm not that stupid, I let all my unhappiness out! (You have such a great husband, there must be a lot of girls surrounding him?) If there are, that's normal. This means I have good taste! (Kasey cuts in: I don't let anyone get near me!) If he really does find true love, I would let him leave and won't stop him. I believe he would do the same for me. It's been so many years, we have mutual trust. We respect each other, so there won't be any 'imperial orders' nor do we check on one another. We take initiative to report of our whereabouts because we don't want the other to worry. All along, he has never done anything that crosses the line."

Christine Ng Reminded by Fala Chen to have Professionalism

Yesterday Wayne Lai and Christine Ng were shooting for TVB new series Will Power. Christine collaborates with Fala Chen once again in this new series, coincidentally the two have the same birthday -- February 24th. Sonija Kwok & Maggie Siu Turns Down Role, Christine Ng Fills the Shoes

Sonija Kwok is currently shooting TVB's Lunar New Year series, Record of the Fifth Day Opening and TVB initially intended to cast her in producer Tsui Wing Hong's new series Transfer of Love Firm (傳愛事務所) co-starring TV Kings Moses Chan and Wayne Lai. The other cast includes Fala Chen, Sire Ma and Susan Tse. However, Sonija's daughter is her utmost priority, therefore she decided to turn down the series and spend her first Christmas with her daughter instead. Although TVB high executives personally called her to discuss the series, Sonija still politely turned down the job.

Reporters contacted Sonija, when asked if she turned down the new series? She admitted one of the executives did call her, but because shooting Record Fifth Day is already too exhausting and the filming schedule of the two series are too close, she decided to turn it down. She said: "I'm pretty tired, its getting better now though. Before, I was working every day. I considered my current situation, if I had a month off before I start another series, then that wouldn't be a problem, but since I can't physically handle it, then I don't want to be working like this." When speaking of the cast for Transfer of Love Firm are all good actors? Sonija said: "I know! It's a pity, every one of them are really good artists!"

It was understood, Maggie Siu was first casted in this series, but then Sonija replaced her and in the end, Sonija withdraws as well. Christine Ng ultimately 'fills the shoes' for the two actresses who turned down the series.
