Andy Lau willing to shoot a TVB series depending on script & schedule

Yesterday Andy Lau attended the press conference for the London Summer Paralympic Games 2012. He reveals he took 4 days off for his trip to London, so he can support the Hong Kong disabled athletes. When asked if he'll bring his daughter along? Andy smiled and did not respond.

Recently it was rumored TVB invited director Wong Jing and Eric Tsang to produce grand productions and cast superstars in order to rescue the company. Andy admitted Eric did contact him, but he asked to see the script first. If the script is suitable, then he may accept it. Andy said: "Actually I've discussed with TVB since the Mona Fong era. (But TV series shooting is laborious?) If I agree to participate in the series, then I will follow their way of doing things. I cannot ask others to accommodate me. (Wouldn't this hinder you from caring for your daughter?) If the filming schedule affects my everyday life, then I won't accept it. (Currently your daughter is your utmost priority?) My career comes first. (Can TVB afford to hire you?) This absolutely has nothing to do with money."

With the increased importance of Chinese market, the film will have location shooting in Mainland China. The film will be financed by Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Pictures and Mainland China’s DMG Entertainment. With the financial support of the Chinese, Chinese actors will be added into the cast, in order to be on equal status with the Hollywood stars, the first pick will be Andy Lau as he has been in Asian showbiz for 30 years, this could be the chance for him to enter the Hollywood market.

It is clear that Iron Man 3 decided to collaborate with China and Andy, most importantly they are looking at the bright side of the Mainland China box office market, Andy has a high drawing power in the box office of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and other Asian countries, it also suited Andy to walk out of Asia and into Hollywood, he also stand a chance to become Hollywood’s Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor. It’s a win-win situation as there is box office guarantee and Andy could venture into Hollywood.

Although in the original comics, Iron Man has a Chinese villain – The Mandarin who has “10 magical rings”, but with Chinese financial backing, it might not “smear” Chinese to become a villain, thus Andy could be cast as Tony Stark’s old friend in China, using advanced technologies to assist Iron Man in fighting the villains.

Sean Lau vs Andy Lau over Best Actor Award

The 31st Hong Kong Film Award will take place Sunday (the 15th) at the Cultural Center. A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) as a critical and commercial hit is seen as the favorite. Deanie Ip Tak Han has already won five Best Actress awards with this film and can be considered poised to win another. The Best Actor competition is more ferocious. Lau Ching Wan in LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE (DUET MING GUM) and OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2) performs outstandingly and has a higher chance than A SIMPLE LIFE's Andy Lau Tak Wa.

Lau Ching Wan: Two Nominations Split Votes

Lau Ching Wan this year is nominated for Best Actor with both LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE and OVERHEARD 2, in competition with A SIMPLE LIFE's Lau Tak Wa, LET THE BULLETS FLY's Jiang Wen and Ge You. He in LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE handle the Panther character superbly, but because he has two nominations the vote split concern remains. In addition Lau Tak Wa's A SIMPLE LIFE performance is solid and natural and also won the Golden Horse Award, Lau Ching Wan would face some pressure; the other two strong rivals Jiang Wen and Ge You's acting is powerful and strong. This battle is not simple at all for Ching Wan.

The Best Actress fight of course is all on Ip Tak Han's side. She in A SIMPLE LIFE grasped the character accurately and with layer, sweeping the international award stage as she won the Venice Best Actress, the Golden Horse Best Actress, the 15th Tallinn Black Night Film Festival Best Actress, the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Best Actress and the 6th Asian Film Award Best Actress. As for the competition, only Shu Qi's tear jerking film A BEAUTIFUL LIFE had any chance. FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE (LUNG MOON FEI GAP)'s Zhou Xun, DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART (DAN SUN NAM NUI)'s Gao Yuanyuan and WU XIA's Tang Wei inevitably can only run along.

Best Picture: FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE Vs. A SIMPLE LIFE

Director Ann Hui On Wa's movies have always been detailed. The film that she produced and directed, A SIMPLE LIFE, is a critical and commercial hit and motivates Hong Kong film's rise; the Tsui Hark directed FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE with 3D technology brings wu xia to life. With its 13 Hong Kong Film Award nomination both hold their own in Best Picture and Best Director; however, opponents LET THE BULLETS FLY's Jiang Wen, OVERHEARD 2's Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung and LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE's Johnnie To Kei Fung all have decent word of mouth and each has supporters. The dark horse possibility cannot be eliminated.

Andy Lau names soon-to-born daughter

All is in place for the arrival of Heavenly King Andy Lau's first child.

Andy and his wife Carol Chu are expecting a baby girl in June.

While Andy is still completing his current projects, he has made sure that arrangements are put in place. Forty-six-year-old Carol, who will undergo a Caesarean section, will deliver her child at Hong Kong's Sanatorium Hospital, which has many secret passages, to escape the prying eye of the paparazzi.

Andy had also purchased an apartment in an upscale area in Malaysia for Carol, so that she can rest in peace during her confinement period. He also hoped that his wife and daughter will stay in the country permanently.

The singer had chosen an apartment unit at the highest floor, so that Carol could enjoy the beautiful scenery and remain optimistic. Staying at a high floor would mean that the couple could avoid the paparazzi and have more privacy.
It was also said that the anxious dad-to-be had already named his daughter. Initially, Andy wanted to give his daughter a Chinese name, which contained the element of water. However, he settled with 'Lau Wan Xin', after getting advice from a monk.

Andy lau is called a literary youth

Although his wife is already seven months pregnant and recently even caught grocery shopping in Hong Kong, Andy Lau Tak Wa recently has been busy with Mainland promotion of A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) and could not protect his wife. Two nights ago Wa Jai, Ip Tak Han and director Hui On Wa attended a Shanghai premiere.

Due to the extremely great A SIMPLE LIFE and numerous awards, the premiere tickets were sold out long ago. The Shanghai stop premiere press conference attracted many reporters. Later everyone attended the premiere. Lau Tak Wa was both A SIMPLE LIFE executive producer and star. In recent years Wa Jai's film releases were mostly dramatic. A SIMPLE LIFE star Qin Hailu joked that Wa Jai was a "literary youth". Wa Jai said, "Maybe others feel I have this type of aura. If they say I am then I am."

Wa Jai pointed out that he invested in A SIMPLE LIFE mainly because of his promise 10 years ago to Hui On Wa. 30 years ago his first film BOAT PEOPLE (TAU BUN NO HOI)'s director was Hui On Wa. In 2001 he said to Hui On Wa no matter when as long as she liked he would support her at whatever the cost. Yet Hui On Wa's earlier drama would rather work with Wong Jing than Wa Jai.

Wa Jai said, "Maybe she thought I was kidding, or maybe she was afraid that I would lose money." Wa Jai pointed out that now film and television companies are some publicly traded companies. Projects that might lose money would be hard to approve. This time he lowered his salary and told the bosses the investment risk at most would be 10% of the production cost. Finally the bosses invested. Thus Wa Jai would not be paid until A SIMPLE LIFE performed ideally at the box office.

In addition, two nights ago at A SIMPLE LIFE premiere, the 100 yuan premiere tickets were sold out in a short time and were scalped for 200 yuan. Nicky Wu (Ng Kei Lung) said after watching A SIMPLE LIFE he was very sentimental and hoped that his fans would be able to experience this sentiment. However he did not want everyone to spend their money so he would treat them to a screening. Hopefully everyone would have some understanding about life after watching.
