Selina Jen still affected by burn accident

Taiwanese artiste Selina Jen recently wrote a magazine article titled “A letter to Selina” where she focused on the filming accident that took place in Shanghai three years ago that left her with severe burns on her body. In the article, she illustrated her journey to recovery and revealed that she once thought of leaving showbiz as the sight of her scars made her extremely depressed.

Besides going through the pain of the physical injuries, the 31-year-old had to cope with a wounded confidence as she found herself becoming “fat”, “ugly” and “crooked-face”. Despite her gradual recovery, the singer admitted that she still breaks down thinking about the damage the accident had caused. Sharing intimate thoughts through her writing, Selina let on that she often questioned her own decision to stand before the cameras again.

Nevertheless, she expressed her gratitude towards her husband Richard Chang who has provided much needed support, reminding her that “the worst is over” and that she should be thankful for the successful recovery.

According to Selina, his encouragement often helped to erase her negative feelings: “What’s lost is lost. We should look forward to the future. It’s a waste of time to wallow in sorrow. Don’t think about how you used to be like. I miss the six-packs that I had when I was young too!”

Selina Jen called an “aunty” by kids

Selina Jen recorded the first episode of her new variety show “Little Universe No. 33” produced by Taiwan’s television channel Super TV on Saturday. The Taiwanese artiste will be co-hosting the show with popular College Talk host Na Dou (Lin You Zhi).

According to the Taiwanese media, Selina made a high-profile entrance to her first recording session of her new variety show by entering the studio in a million-dollar sports car.

The show, which is similar to popular Taiwanese variety show College Talk hosted by Matilda Tao, Na Dou and Ah Ken, will be a kid-centric program that features children as guests on the show with a weekly topical question set for discussion.

Na Dou confessed that he could not handle some of the difficult questions posed by the children, “One of them asked, I have been caught dating with many different girls, so how many girlfriends do I actually have?”

The host added that he had to quickly clarify that “those are just friends” and told the kids that he is “not dating anyone now”.

On the other hand, Selina, who has her own method when it comes to dealing with kids, was also taken aback when her young guests called her “aunty” on the show. The host then pretended to be angry and told them, “You called me aunty because you wanted to catch my attention?”

The 31-year-old starlet is reportedly paid about NT$120,000 (about S$5025) per episode – equivalent to what veteran Taiwanese hosts Zhang Xiao Yan and Dee Hsu are earning right now.

When asked about her pay for hosting the show, Selina responded that she was “not sure” about money issues.

Selina and Na Dou’s new variety show would be replacing a variety show hosted by Bowie Tsang. Selina’s pay is reportedly about NT$40,000 (about $1700) more than what Bowie was paid, making her the queen of Super TV’s variety shows.

Selina sheds tears on first flight after recovery

S.H.E.’s Selina Jen returned to showbiz in July, 19 months after she was injured in a horrific on-set fire. In recent days, the 30-year-old boarded a flight the first time after her accident. She returned to Taiwan two nights ago with fellow HIM International Music, including Yoga Lin, Dylan Kuo, Power Station and band-mate Ella.

As this is her first flight after recovering from severe burns, the company was worried that she would feel discomfort from the plane’s air compression systems and chose to send its artistes to Ishigaki island in Japan, a mere 40 minutes ride away.

Ella slipped away from Selina 15 minutes after takeoff and made a beeline for the flight announcement system. Playing the role of an air stewardess, she announced, “A good day to all passengers on the flight bound for Ishigaki. There is a very special female passenger with us today by the name of Selina. Let us all applaud her for her bravery.”

The passengers and air service crew showed their encouragement to Selina, who was touched to the point of shedding tears. She shared, “I feel a little sad because the last time I took a plane was to receive treatment (after the accident).”

Ella then gave Selina a big hug and expressed that she had intended to make Selina shed tears right from the start.

According to reports, Selina is unable to go under the sun as her wounds have not fully healed. As a result, she spent her days hiding indoors, playing mahjong with her friends, practicing yoga or hitting the gym. She enjoyed the beach only after sunset.

The other members of S.H.E., Hebe and Ella, have stuck by Selina through her recovery and will be celebrating their 11th anniversary on September 11. HIM has created a Facebook page in commemoration of the event, asking fans to post messages of congratulations and encouragement to the trio.

Hunan Satellite TV which is in charge of the event responded by saying, "Even though Selina has been absent for a year, it has not affected her placing in audiences' hearts. In fact, many people have called her nomination the best way to thank her for her hard work - her presence at the opening ceremony will be a good way to welcome her back."
Selina has responded to the news of the nomination, saying, "(I'm) a little surprised and am still processing it." Towards the unwavering support from her fans, she expressed, "I'll definitely work hard and if I win the award, I'll lose weight!"

Selina Jen is in no hurry to be a mother

With Mother's Day coming up in a few days, S.H.E. member, Selina Jen, expressed that she is in no hurry to be a mother herself.

Selina Jen goes shopping with friends

Steadily recovering from her burn injuries which she sustained at an unfortunate fire accident on the set of I Have a Date with Spring in late 2010, 30-year-old Selina Jen was advised by the doctor to live life as per normal. The singer took up badminton, cooking and occasionally meets up with her friends for meals or shopping activities. Looking to be in the pink of health, the S.H.E member was spotted shopping with her good friend, Kiki Ding and her pet dog, a few nights ago. Despite the need to wear a pressure suit under her purple dress, the starlet was beaming from ear to ear as she left the fashion boutique half an hour later with a big bag of purchases. As Richard is rarely seen accompanying his wife on such outings, according to his friend, the low-profile lawyer refrains from joining her on such outings as he prefers not to be photographed by the paparazzi. He will still make it a point to accompany his wife to important gatherings such as weddings and birthday parties. On a separate note, in an interview last month, Selina shared that the both of them have reached an agreement to look into their plans to conceive a child next year as Richard, who is the eldest son in his family, hopes to start a family of his own soon.

Selina Jen refuses to forgive director Chen Ming Zhang

It has been more than one year since S.H.E member Selina Jen suffered from third-degree burns, after an accident occurred on the set of now-axed drama I Have a Date with Spring back in 2010.

While she's on the road to recovery, scoring her first solo endorsement since the accident, Selina has yet to forget what had happened.

At the press conference to announce her endorsement of a beauty product, Selina joked nervously, "I'm so nervous, [because] there are so many people. Who are you trying to scare?" The 31-year-old, clad in a knee-length white dress with long sleeves, later continued her interview while sitting down, because she is unable to stand for a long time.

When asked if she had forgiven Chen Ming Zhang, the director of I Have a Date with Spring, who had asked her to film the explosion scene without using a stunt double, Selina began to tear.

The singer did not say if she had "forgiven" the director, but told reporters that she had spoken to her husband Richard Chang about it a few days ago. Richard told her that a professional actress would not reject a director's request.

"Richard kept comforting me, telling me he'd do the same (not use a stunt double) if it's him. However, I feel that everyone should protect themselves," Selina said. A staff member with Selina later expressed that it is too difficult for Selina "to forgive" now.

Selina's record label HIM International had said that the director and stunt director had assured Selina all will be well when she voiced her concerns before the shoot.

HIM International added that Selina's psychiatrist encouraged her to face up to her fears and hoped that the singer could heal her mental scars through crying.
