Following the cases of TVB series D.I.E, Men with No Shadows, Heart of Greed and When Heaven Burns illegally broadcast online, recently it happens again with Niki Chow and Michael Tse's new series Sergeant Tabloid.
Sergeant Tabloid had just completed its filming in February, but unexpectedly the series has been actively broadcast on Mainland streaming sites Tudou and PPS and Youtube. The websites even had a dual language Cantonese and Mandarin version broadcast. Last night, the fourth episode was already uploaded and led to heated discussion on Mainland discussion forums. However, yesterday PPS and Youtube already deleted the uploads.
Niki: Respect Copyright
It was understood TVB still has not made arrangements for the series to broadcast in Hong Kong locally, and have not put the series out for sale. TVB's Director of Foreign Affairs (Tsang Sing Ming) expressed yesterday that he already knows about the illegal broadcasting, he said: "We haven't started selling the series yet. If you go on Mainland websites to watch it in HK, then it is very wrong, so after the holiday, I will be back at TVB to investigate the case and get to the bottom of it." Mr. Tsang said in regards to all the illegal broadcasting, TVBI (TVB International) will provide advice to their clients regularly.
[Oriental Daily] contacted Niki and Mandy Wong yesterday. They both expressed their shock. Niki said: "I didn't know such thing has happened, hope TVB will get to the bottom of this! After all, it is unlawful and we all worked so hard on the production, I hope we all respect the copyright. Although it's hard to control, Netizens shouldn't spread the clips around because it's illegal."
Mandy expressed she did not know about this incident. She said: "Can see the series that fast? We just finished shooting not long ago! (How do you feel about internal theft) I don't really know the details of the incident. If it's true, then it really kills all of the hard work by artists. The filming process was so difficult, of course we hope to witness the achievements. Hope everyone respects intellectual property rights!"
Yesterday Koni Lui attended an event in Tseung Kwan O center and when she learned about the illegal broadcasting, she said surprised: "Huh?! I feel so surprised. If TVB haven't officially put the series out for sale and can already watch it on the Mainland websites, then that is so strange. I hope TVB will check the source and take action, stop the unlawful broadcasting because we, artists can't do much!"
